Chapter 03

Sequence

The problem it solves: Coordination

Opening thought

The swing is an assembly line.

What is firing sequence?

A powerful swing isn't created because every body part moves.

It's created because every body part moves at the right time.

Just like an assembly line, every step depends on the one before it. If one station works too early or too late, the entire process becomes less efficient.

The swing works the same way.

After loading into a balanced position, the hitter is finally ready to begin transferring energy toward the baseball.

The front side stabilizes, bringing the body's forward movement under control.

That stability allows the lower half to begin rotating.

As the hips rotate, energy is transferred into the torso.

The torso continues that transfer into the upper body.

Every movement prepares the one that follows.

Finally, once the decision to swing has been made, the hands fire toward the contact position.

The sequence is what allows the body to work as one connected system instead of a collection of independent parts.

The power isn't in one body part.
It's in how they work together.

A connected sequence transfers energy through the body—but the transfer isn't finished yet.

What path should the barrel take to get there?

The barrel doesn't need to be manipulated. An efficient path allows it to arrive naturally.
